In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Black History Month, Southampton High School College Level Drawing and Advanced Painting students worked collaboratively for over a month to create a mural of artist Elizabeth Catlett as part of East End Arts’ annual MLK Portrait Project Auction. The 4-foot portrait was created after the students studied well-known artists of the Harlem Rennaissance and voted to create an image of Catlett, who created sculptures honoring African American women and art that often addressed themes of social justice. The piece will be auctioned to support the EEA’s Art Scholarship Fund.
