As non-voting board members, Kent and Silvera will provide regular reports on the student body at each board meeting and contribute valuable perspective and feedback to board discussions. “I am looking forward to offering input and initiating change,” said Kent. Likewise, Silvera said, “I want to be an advocate for my peers and be a part of decisions.”
Both students earned their ex officio positions following an application and interview process with school administrators. In addition to his volunteer service as an ex officio member, Kent is a member of his school’s golf team, basketball team and Unified Sports and sits on the superintendent’s student cabinet. He is also a two-year carpentry student.
Silvera is a member of her school’s tennis and mock trial teams and is her class president on the student council. She also participates in the school’s Unified Sports and Best Buddies programs. Both students volunteer at organizations outside of school, as well.
