Southampton Students Tour Historically Black Universities

Posted Date: 11/10/25 (11:44 AM)

Southampton High School juniors and seniors in the My Brother's Keeper Shinnecock program and Black Girl Magic club recently traveled to Virginia for a four-day college exploration trip, during which they toured two historically Black universities — Norfolk State University and Hampton University — as well as Old Dominion University and Virginia Wesleyan University.

In addition to campus tours, the students participated in a variety of enriching experiences that offered a look into college life. They attended the Life Enrichment Center Gala, a celebration and fundraiser that supports literacy tutoring for elementary students in Virginia’s Title I schools, as well as Norfolk State University’s homecoming football game and a Greek step show.

The trip was designed to broaden students’ perspectives on higher education while highlighting the social, cultural and academic aspects of the college experience.
