Southampton High School senior Ralph Carballal has been named a National Semifinalist in the prestigious National Honor Society Scholarship contest. He was awarded $3,300 to support his college education.
Carballal was selected from thousands of applicants across the country in recognition of his dedication to scholarship, service, leadership and character, which are the four pillars of the National Honor Society.
“I was delighted,” Carballal said of receiving the award. “It was good to see that my hard work and community service paid off.”
At Southampton High School, Carballal serves as co-president of the National Honor Society, is a founding member of the school’s robotics team and serves on the Superintendent's Student Leadership Cabinet. He is also active in the school’s Fishing Club and Carpentry Club, where he designed and built a fishing lure that helped him land an International Game Fish Association world record for the largest bluefish caught as a junior angler.
Academically, Carballal has been recognized as an AP Scholar with Distinction and is on track to earn an AP Capstone Diploma.
In addition to his academic achievements, Carballal is a varsity track and field athlete and a member of the varsity swimming team. Outside of school, he serves the community as an ocean lifeguard and a volunteer junior firefighter with the Southampton Fire Department. He plans to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering in college.
