To celebrate World Theatre Day and honor Women’s History Month, the Southampton High School Drama Club performed an original literary concert based on Louisa May Alcott’s novel “Little Women.”The concert was curated, written and directed by drama club president and senior Isabel Fino-Morfogen and assisted by Riley Moredock and Hannah Pak. The performance also featured Lilah Cesario, Sadie Chaleff and Aubrie Dimon and an ensemble including Anabelle Abrams, Alijah Blackwell, Lailah Clairborne, Kiera O'Malley, Maddy Sinclair, Zoey Sulph and Ana Zapata.
The concert featured a collection of songs highlighting each student’s individual strengths, ranging from The Beatles to Billie Eilish to Judy Garland.
In preparing the script, Fino-Morfogen revisited “Little Women,” watched the film and explored feminist literary analysis. She aimed to capture the language, events and emotions of the original work while crafting a contemporary narrative. Her adaptation follows a high school senior reminiscing on her childhood and the music and literature that shaped her as she gets ready to leave for college.
After completing the script, Fino-Morfogen collaborated with a group of freshmen to refine the piece and select songs based on their lyrics. They then designed and constructed the set and costumes using items that they thrifted or brought from home.
Beyond the production, Fino-Morfogen is an active leader in her school. She serves as president of her school’s Save Promise Club, Girls Learn International and Voices of Southampton Choir, and as historian of the National Honor Society. She is also a member of Mock Trial.
