Southampton Sophomore Advances To International Poetry Competition

Southampton High School sophomore Isla Butler will compete at the international level of The Links, Incorporated Creative Arts Contest in Detroit after earning first place in the Eastern Shore (NY) Chapter’s regional competition. Butler qualified to compete internationally after submitting three original poems for consideration — “Constellations,” “Star Stuff” and “Guiding Light.” Her work was selected from a field of Suffolk County students in grades K-12. In recognition of her achievement, she also received a $100 award and had her poetry professionally preserved. The Southampton School District congratulates Isla Butler and wishes her success in the upcoming competition.
